today when i was stuck at a red light i began to contemplate the plight of my people because as i peeped through my window i saw a woman with a stroller who couldn't have been much older than @ 34 and as she walked in the rain my mind couldn't refrain from thinking about where we came from -the land of the drum the so-called chosen ones now living in Babylon at least that's what Rastafarians would say ...a Jewish appropriation that may be appropriate for today though certainly not limited to African Americans in any way ...at least in my opinion. this may be Babylon but we've all been "chosen" for deliverance. so deliver us ALL from evil hands so we can move from Babylon into the promised land. -carlton mackey
finding enlightenment is like lighting a match in the dark you start with a spark which soon bursts into a radiating flame and illuminates the plane until nothing remains of the former darkness ...but almost as quickly as it started their ways are parted and darkness returns and the fire that burned so brightly retreats as if frightened by its sudden release of energy and within me is left a shortness of breath and the hope that soon another match will illume and leave behind the fresh fumes of its lingering smoke -carlton mackey
i'm thinking of thanking you but things got in the way i thought about the proper platitude but i have no idea what to say so i'll just make do to remember all of our good times and if memory serves me correctly you used to be a friend of mine so here's to the good time i think i thougt we had but if not then nevermind. ...maybe it was all in my head. -carlton mackey
